After 15 years in Sydney where Maureen established the popular yoga program at The Royal Hospital for Women and taught private and corporate yoga, it was time for a tree/sea change. In 2013 with her husband Mick, she moved back home to Victoria and settled in beautiful Aireys Inlet. Maureen teaches Yoga in Geelong and works as a Women’s Health Nurse/Midwife and Early Parenting Educator at St John of God Hospital Geelong.

Maureen began her career in 1979 as a nurse at a The Royal Children’s hospital Melbourne. And so began her journey into the world of healing, taking courses in women’s health, shiatsu massage, aromatherapy, reiki, mindfulness and meditation.

Maureen has worked in health education for over 20 years.

Her professional experience and extensive studies led Maureen to develop a profound appreciation for eastern philosophy and complementary therapies. She considers her successful completion of Japanese style Ki yoga and more recently Tina Nance Yin Yoga teacher training as some of her major achievements.

About Ki Yoga:

Ki Yoga and Yoga Therapeutics are a Japanese inspired active dynamic style which differs from other forms of yoga. It uses movement and strong breathing to release the meridian system, which underpins most eastern healing practices such as Acupuncture Shiatsu and Tai Chi. The therapeutic nature of Ki Yoga is particularly effective for easing the aches, pains and worries of life.

 About Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is an antidote to our yang practices of busyness, cardio and strength training. It is slower paced where yoga postures are held for between two and five minutes. It is during this long stillness that we work the connective tissues; tendons, fascia and ligaments and activate the meridians. It is also a meditation practice thus cultivating greater awareness of the mindbodyspirit.

Amy began attending Iyengar Yoga classes as a teenager with her mother in the 1990’s.  With a background in classical and modern dance, Iyengar yoga naturally appealed to her with its precision and focus on correct alignment of the body.

Amy was apprenticed by the founder and director of Balwyn Yoga Centre and spent years gaining invaluable skills and insights into the art of teaching yoga. She is a registered Level 2 yoga teacher with Yoga Australia and has over 12 years experience teaching a range of students including, beginners, advanced, children, pre and post natal women. Drawing on 20 years of yoga practice, Amy is able to tailor classes to suit the specific needs of each individual.

Amy has continued to practice and teach yoga while studying an Arts Degree and a Diploma of Teaching, travelling and through out two pregnancies. She is currently living in Aireys Inlet with her partner Rupert and two children and firmly believes the benefits of yoga should be accessible to all regardless of age and physical ability.

Amy enjoys the strength, flexibility and energy yoga gives her and is inspired by the inherent gifts and challenges yoga presents to the practitioner.
